Design students, professional designers, architects and interior designers are welcome to enter, and there is both a professional and a student category in the judging.

The design should allow for industrial manufacturing and have broad market appeal but be of a proudly South African nature and look.

The deadline for entries is 30^th June for professional designers, and 31^st July for design students, and the winning entry will go to Austria, flights and accommodation included, to meet with the Kludi design and product development teams, and see their product manufactured globally.   Winners will be notified by end September 2012.

The launch of KLUDI in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town was a great success. The events were thoroughly enjoyed by design professionals, media, suppliers and ON TAP franchisors.   KLUDI will be available in 37 ON TAP stores nation wide.

“ON TAP will be taking bathroom design to the next level.  KLUDI manufactures high quality bathroom fittings to reflect current demand of a well-designed timeless bathroom architecture”, says Julia Barton- Hill, Marketing Manager of ON TAP.

Apart from the exciting launches that took place, KLUDI is looking for a unique tap design that represents products currently available in South Africa and will be running a competition for any professional designer, architect, interior designer and design student to participate. The judges will include Michael Stein, Designer and winner of various international design awards. Fantastic prizes will be up for grabs – a trip to Austria including flights, accommodation, meeting with designers and product development teams.

The design draft should allow for industrial manufacturing and appeal to a broad target market. The draft should also include drawings and/or CAD designs in various perspectives and the interpretation should not exceed one A4 page. One design per participant will be allowed.  The deadline for professional designers is 30 June 2012, the deadline for design students the 31 July 2012.

The 2011 event was held on Thursday, 8^th of December 2011.     A splendid “Street Party” together with a Jazz Band was hosted by The Cape Institute of Architecture, a year end function for Built Environment Professionals.

ON TAP supported the event by being one of the main sponsors.  “This event is the perfect network opportunity to build industry relationships with key role players and to promote your business to approximately 400-450 members and guests within the built environment,” says Julia Barton-Hill, Marketing Manager at ON TAP.

The party was a great success and ON TAP look forward to participate in the 2012 event.

For those in the latter group, the status of World Design Capital is designated biennially by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) to cities that are dedicated to using design for social, cultural and economic development. During 2014, Cape Town will play host to a year-long programme of design-focused events that will see design used for social, economical and cultural transformation.

Apart from the exposure that Cape Town will receive in international media, this award will also help grab the attention from the global creative community.

With the recent announcement of Cape Town becoming the 2014 World Design Capital, the creative crowed at the event had more than enough reason to celebrate and made no effort in hiding their excitement for the industry’s developments. The sundowner session on the rooftop bar of the Freeworld Design centre kicked off the events with a live jazz band setting the mood. The official opening of the exhibition took place shortly after, followed by the meal and aptly suited Chocolat movie.

In the spirit of celebration, ON TAP gave away a designer TEKA kitchen sink worth R5 050 to a lucky guest.
